Success Models

    STUDY SUCCESSFUL PERSONS

This simple principle transformed the course creator's life when she heard it in success expert, Brian Tracy's book, the Psychology of Achievement.

In moments of despair, the stories of others provide the motivation and inspiration I need to continue my journey. Success is not an overnight journey. It can be long and laborious and there will be many obstacles to overcome along the way. In our heads, we have to fight "Mr. Defeat" as Dr. David Schwartz reminds us, in his book, The Magic of Thinking Big. Mr Defeat will tell us all the reasons why we cannot do x, y or z.

Many of us have all kinds of excuses and reasons why we cannot achieve our God-given goals and dreams. We are suffering from the disease, he calls "excusistis." This disease manifests in thoughts such as: I'm too old, I'm too young, I'm not smart enough, it's too late, I'm not healthy, I'm from the wrong side of town, I've been rejected too many times etc.

Yet we can all find successful persons who triumphed over all our excuses. This is why studying success models is so important. It tells us, that if they did it, so can we!

SUCCESS MODELS TO INSPIRE- Discuss with Instructor/Coach and Use the comments section to share your findings if you wish.

Identify a success model under 30 and one over 40, that is, someone who achieved significant success in their field of endeavour by age 30, and one who did it after age 40. These could be persons you know personally or are international icons. It could be your national heroes, sports figures, political figures or someone doing well in a field/career of your interest. In your research look for the following:

  • Brief biography (age, family, education etc)
  • Accomplishments of person
  • Obstacles they had to overcome
  • Philosophy, habits or attitudes that led to their success
  • 1-3 keys to their success that you would like to adopt
